Within the framework of a working program between Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and South Korea’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Minister Trinh Viet Hung and Minister Song Miryung signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in veterinary and animal quarantine. This officially announced the opening of the market for processed chicken products between the two countries.
The outcome carries significance beyond trade alone, as it reflects the two countries’ ongoing efforts to strengthen coordination mechanisms in quarantine procedures, quality supervision, and the fulfillment of technical requirements for animal-origin products. At a time when importing markets are applying increasingly stringent standards, establishing a clear cooperation framework between the regulatory authorities of both countries is considered a key foundation for expanding opportunities for businesses.
Speaking at the event, Minister Trinh Viet Hung stated that, during the initial phase, each country will have two enterprises authorized to export processed chicken products. According to the Minister, this marks an important first step toward gradually expanding the scale of cooperation in the future, creating additional opportunities for businesses capable of meeting technical requirements while contributing to the export value of Vietnam’s livestock and food processing industries.
From the Korean side, Minister Song Miryung described the achievement as the result of a long process of technical coordination and negotiations between the authorities of the two countries. She noted that both sides will continue technical exchanges in the field of animal quarantine to facilitate future market access for additional product categories.
From the business perspective, Mr. Pawalit Ua-Amornwanit, Chief Executive Officer of C.P. Vietnam Corporation, commented that South Korea’s decision to open opportunities for Vietnamese processed chicken products carries positive significance for the entire industry. According to him, the development reflects not only Vietnam’s deeper international integration, but also the growing capabilities of Vietnamese enterprises in production, processing, and compliance with international standards.

Representatives of C.P. Vietnam expressed their appreciation to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, particularly specialized agencies such as the Department of Livestock Production and Animal Health, for supporting businesses throughout the process of meeting technical requirements, completing regulatory documentation, and complying with standards related to quarantine procedures, food safety, and market access. According to Mr. Pawalit Ua-Amornwanit, expanded access for Vietnamese processed chicken products to the South Korean market will help strengthen the international standing of Vietnam’s livestock and food processing industries.
As one of the major players in Vietnam’s livestock and food sector, C.P. Vietnam Corporation currently operates the CPV Food Binh Phuoc integrated livestock and export-oriented chicken processing complex. With a total investment of approximately USD 250 million, the project was developed under the integrated Feed–Farm–Food model, encompassing feed mills, hatcheries, farming systems, slaughtering facilities, and food processing plants. This integrated model enables the company to maintain consistent control throughout the value chain, from inputs to finished products, thereby improving traceability, disease control, and compliance with food safety standards.
Built on this integrated production platform, CPV Food Binh Phuoc has supplied processed chicken products to several international markets, including Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Russia, and Mongolia. Experience gained from meeting the requirements of these export markets is considered a key advantage as the company continues enhancing its production and processing capabilities while adapting to increasingly stringent import standards.

Mr. Pawalit Ua-Amornwanit added that the business community looks forward to continuing close cooperation with regulatory authorities in improving product quality and ensuring strict compliance with quarantine regulations and technical standards in importing markets. These efforts are considered essential for Vietnam’s livestock and food processing industries to gradually expand market access, increase export value, and pursue more sustainable growth.
South Korea’s decision to open its market to Vietnamese processed chicken products is expected to encourage domestic enterprises to invest more heavily in deep processing, production standardization, and competitiveness enhancement. In the long term, closer coordination between regulators and businesses is expected to create further opportunities for Vietnam’s poultry industry to integrate more deeply into the global food value chain.
